2015 Speech contest winner, Majit Golden

The 2022 Jody Deering Nyquist speech contest is now open! Given the craziness of the past few years, this year’s theme is: What lessons should UW learn from the COVID pandemic?

The theme allows for a wide range of ideas about how the UW community should plan for a post-pandemic era. In support of their ideas, speakers should provide clear arguments and solid evidence. See the past winners below for a sense of the type of speeches that have done well.

The contest is open to all currently enrolled undergraduate UW students. Students should submit a 5-10 video speech to the CSD website here before 11:59 pm on April 22, 2022.

The speech will  go through a preliminary round of judging to get the pool down to the six finalists, who will be judged by a panel of speech experts. 1st place will recieve $250, 2nd place $200, 3rd place $150, and 4th through 6th recieving $100 each.
