CONSULTING

The oldest part of the center is speech coaching. Beginning in 2005, the center offers free speech coaching to the UW community. Coaches are recruited from COM 220 and 320 take a class on speech coaching (COM 336: Speech Consulting). Annually, the center offers hundreds of hours of one-on-one speech consulting hours. Some former tutors have gone on to careers as professional speech writers.

If you are working on a speech, please come in and let us help you refine your work. We can help at every stage, from coming up with ideas, to designing slides, to polishing your delivery.

If you are working on a class assignment, bring your assignment description. We can help you design a presentation that fits what the assignment is looking for.

CLASSROOM VISITS AND WORKSHOPS

Is your class working on an assignment with a speech component? The center offers public speaking talks, classroom visits, and workshops. We’ll work with you to design a workshop to help you advance your assignment goals.

For each individual workshop, you meet first with the CSD director to design a workshop plan with presentation slides. The director then trains a consultant on running the specific workshop. After that, the consultant meets directly with you to go over their plan and refine it based on your needs.

Class workshops are $50/hr with all the money going to the undergraduate workshop leader.
