Center for Speech & Debate consultants, Rich Mamiya and Kayah Corpus, ran a speech workshop for the Mountains to Sound Greenway Trust’s Clean Water Ambassadors Internship. The Mountains to Sound Greenway Trust works to “steward the 1.5-million-acre landscape that stretches from Seattle to Ellensburg along I-90.” As part of their mission they, in partnership with the King County Wastewater Treatment Division, offer paid internship experiences “for a cohort of high school interns to learn about local environmental issues, solutions, and careers focused on clean water in our region.” Rich and Kayah provided speech coaching to help the Clean Water Ambassadors advocate for regional clean water. Below are some of the thanks that the Clean Water Ambassadors had for Rich and Kayah.

  • Thank you so much for the public speaking workshop I didn’t realize there were so many things that went into being a good public speaker. I really enjoyed the presentation it was fun and engaging so it made retaining all the information given much easier. The humor added was a great touch too! (Jennie)
  • Thank you for the public speaking workshop! I learned so much from your presentations. Public speaking is something I personally struggle on but after your presentation I definitely see myself being able to present a slide in a professional manner! (Bobby)
  • Rich & Kayah: Thank you for a wonderful public speaking workshop! While I’ve heard tips about presenting and speaking before, this presentation stood out to me because you guys were very down to earth. I also liked how there was an interactive portion of the presentation where we got to actually practice what we learned– it made me more aware of my own habits with moving and twitching while speaking, and now I can work to be more intentional with body language in the future. Most of all, I appreciated the video of the guy screaming. Thank you again!! (Miranda)
  • I love public speaking, and this workshop was so fun! I felt like you both went into the perfect amount of detail for each topic and explained everything at a level we could all understand, no matter our public speaking experience. You guys took away a lot of the fear and scariness surrounding public speaking and made this an engaging and often funny presentation. Thank you, Rich and Kayah! (Emma)
  • The Public speaking and presentation skills workshop have helped me prepare for my final presentation and not only that but also helped me build my communication skills. so thank you so much (Robel)
  • I really enjoyed your presentation and insight on public speaking! I will definitely be using your tips and advice for my presentation at the end of the program. I especially liked the part where you included us in the presentation by asking questions and having us partner up. Thanks for all your help! :) (Russel)
